As the Steve Williams Soccer School continued to raise coaching standards and participation in football for both boys and girls, the levels of technical ability and enjoyment of the game began to rise in the local area.
The carefully designed development programme bred more ideas to help children grow in confidence and play to their true potential, and in 1996 the SWSS inter-schools Challenge Cup was launched.
The inaugural fun day involved teams from local primary school, providing the opportunity to exhibit the techniques, skills and teamplay learnt during the coaching sessions.

Sutton Bonington won the first competition and went on to win the next 5 tournaments before Orchard School halted their outstanding run and became the second school to have their name engraved on the glittering silver cup.
In May 2003, the 14th successful Challenge Cup day took place at Kegworth Primary School with newcomers NewCroft Primary School emerging the victors.
The competition runs twice per year in Spring and Autumn and is eagerly awaited by all participating schools as the highlight of their football coaching year with the soccer school.
